Transmission
Transmitted by a vector (4/4); an insect
(4/4); Thysanoptera (4/4). Transmitted in a semi-persistent manner (1/2), or
in a persistent manner (1/2). Virus retained when the vector moults (2/2);
multiplies in the vector (1/1); not transmitted congenitally to the progeny of
the vector (2/2); transmitted by mechanical inoculation (2/2); transmitted by
grafting (2/2); not transmitted by contact between plants (2/2); not transmitted
by seed (2/2); not transmitted by pollen (1/1).
Experimental host range
Many (>9) families susceptible
(1/2), or several (3-9) families susceptible (1/2).

Physical and
biochemical properties
Properties of particles in sap
TIP:
40-43.75-45 °C. LIV: 0.2-0.6-1 days. DEP: log10 minus 2-3 (1/2). Infectivity
of sap decreased by treatment with di-ethyl ether (2/2). Leaf sap contains
few virions (2/2).
Particle morphology
Virions isometric (1/2), or unusually
shaped (1/2); enveloped (2/2); 70-82.5-90 nm in diameter; rounded in profile
(1/1); without a conspicuous capsomere arrangement (2/2).
Physical properties
One sedimenting component in purified
preparations (2/2); sedimentation coefficient 550 S. Density 1.21 g
cm-3 in sucrose.
Biochemical properties
Virions contain 5 % nucleic acid;
70 % protein; 20 % lipid.
Genome consists of RNA (2/2); single-stranded (2/2); linear (2/2). Total
genome size 17.2-17.4-17.6 kb. Genome of three parts (1/1); largest (or only)
genome part 8.8-8.848-8.897 kb; the 2nd largest 5.4 kb; the 3rd largest
2.916-3.208-3.5 kb. Base composition 16.2 % G; 31.6 % A; 19.3 % C; 32.9 % U.
Infectivity lost when deproteinised with proteases (2/2); lost when
deproteinised with phenol or detergent (2/2). Poly A region absent (1/1).
Additional factor required for infectivity (1/2), or not required for
infectivity (1/2).
Features of the genome
Non-genomic nucleic acid
not found in the virions (1/1). Sub-genomic mRNA found in infected
cells (1/1).
Features of proteins
Virion protein(s) four (2/2);
Mr 72000-96000-119900. Mr of 2nd largest 64000-71000-78000.
Mr of 3rd largest 58000-60000-62000. Mr of 4th largest
27000-29000-31000. Virion proteins glycosylated (2/2). Virion proteins
phosphorylated (1/1).
Replication
Genome replicates in cytoplasm (1/1).
Replication does not depend on a helper virus (2/2).
Cytopathology
Virions found in cytoplasm (2/2).
Inclusions present in infected cells (1/2), or absent from infected cells (1/2);
are unusual in shape (1/1).
