Host range and
symptoms
Natural host range and symptoms
Symptoms
persist (5/5), or vary seasonally (1/5).
Transmission
Transmitted by a vector (3/4), or means not
involving a vector (1/4); a mite (3/3); Eriophyidae (3/3). Virus not transmitted
congenitally to the progeny of the vector (1/1); transmitted by mechanical
inoculation (6/6); not transmitted by contact between plants (2/2); transmitted
by seed (1/4), or not transmitted by seed (3/4); not transmitted by pollen
(3/3).
Experimental host range
Few (<3) families susceptible.

Physical and
biochemical properties
Properties of particles in sap
TIP:
50-52.8-60 °C. LIV: 1-8.75-56 days. DEP: log10 minus 3 (6/6), or 4 (1/6).
Leaf sap contains few virions (2/4), or contains many virions (2/4).
Particle morphology
Virions filamentous; not enveloped
(4/4); usually flexuous (6/6); with a clear modal length; of 693-709.8-760 nm;
11-13.7-15.5 nm wide. Axial canal obscure (4/4). Basic helix obscure (3/3).
Physical properties
One sedimenting component in purified
preparations (5/5); sedimentation coefficient 150-161.5-166 S. Density
1.304-1.314-1.325 g cm-3 in CsCl. A260/A280 ratio 1.33-1.35-1.37.
Biochemical properties
Virions contain 5.3 % nucleic
acid; 0 % lipid.
Genome consists of RNA (5/5); single-stranded (5/5); linear (2/2). Total
genome size 8-9-10 kb. Genome unipartite (4/4); largest (or only) genome part
8-9-10 kb. Base composition 31 % G; 23 % A; 24 % C; 22 % U. 5´ terminus of
RNA has a VPg (2/2). Infectivity retained when deproteinised with phenol or
detergent (1/1). Poly A region present (1/1). Genome has no tRNA-like
activity (1/1).
Features of the genome
Non-genomic nucleic acid
not found in the virions (1/1). Sub-genomic mRNA not found in infected
cells (2/2).
Features of proteins
Replication
Genome replicates in cytoplasm (2/2).
Replication does not depend on a helper virus (3/3).
Cytopathology
Virions found in cytoplasm (6/6).
Inclusions present in infected cells; are pinwheels, or unusual in shape (1);
they do not contain virions (4/4).
Taxonomy and
relationships
