Host range and symptoms
First reported
in Sonchus oleraceus; from Argentina; by Vega et al. (1976).
Natural host range and symptoms
Symptoms persist.
- Sonchus oleraceus - conspicuous leaf mottling and, sometimes,
chlorotic lines, spots and rings.
Transmission
Virus transmitted by mechanical inoculation.
Geographical distribution
Experimental host range
Several (3-9) families
susceptible.
Diagnostically susceptible host species and
symptoms
- Chenopodium quinoa, Gomphrena globosa - local
lesions; no systemic infection.
- Datura stramonium, Lactuca sativa, L.
serriola, Nicotiana sylvestris, N. tabacum, Petunia × hybrida, Physalis
floridana - systemic leaf chlorosis.
- Datura metel, Matthiola
incana - symptomless systemic infection.
- Nicotiana clevelandii, N.
glutinosa - chlorotic local lesions; systemic vein-clearing, chlorotic
spots and rings, chlorosis and slight distortion.
Diagnostically
insusceptible host species
Beta vulgaris, Chenopodium
amaranticolor, Calendula officinalis, Callistephus chinensis, Zinnia
elegans.
Maintenance and propagation hosts
Nicotiana
clevelandii, N. glutinosa.
Assay hosts (Local
lesions or Whole plants)
Chenopodium
quinoa (L), Nicotiana glutinosa (W).

Physical and
biochemical properties
Properties of particles in sap
TIP: 50
°C. LIV: 0.33 days (at c. 18ºC). DEP: log10 minus 4. Leaf sap
contains few virions.
Particle morphology
Virions rhabdo- or
bullet-shaped; enveloped; usually straight; with a clear modal length; of
270-350 nm; 45-57 nm wide.
Cytopathology
Virions found in leaves and mesophyll; in
cytoplasm (within cisternae of endoplasmic reticulum).
