(?) tombusvirus
Index
Data collated by A.A.Brunt, 1994.
Nomenclature
Acronym
ICTV decimal code
Host range and symptoms
First reported
in water from River Sitke; from Germany; by Yi et al. (1992).
Geographical distribution
Found, but with no evidence of
spread, in plants in Germany (River Sitke at Braunschweig and Neustadt).
Experimental host range
Few (<3) families susceptible.
Diagnostically susceptible host species and symptoms
Chenopodium amaranticolor, C. quinoa, Nicotiana benthamiana, N.
clevelandii.
Maintenance and propagation hosts
Susceptible host species
Families containing susceptible hosts
Purification method
Gallitelli
et al. (1985).
Physical and biochemical properties
Particle morphology
Virions isometric; not enveloped; 33
nm in diameter.
Biochemical properties
Genome consists of RNA;
single-stranded. Total genome size 4.8 kb. Genome unipartite; largest (or
only) genome part 4.8 kb.
Features of proteins
Virion protein(s) one;
Mr 35800; coat protein.
Cytopathology
Virions found in cytoplasm. Other cellular
changes: few peroxisomal vesicles induced; endoplasmic reticulum adjacent to
peroxisomes.
Taxonomy and
relationships
Virus(es) with serologically unrelated virions
Artichoke mottled crinkle, carnation Italian ringspot, cymbidium
ringspot, cucumber necrosis, eggplant mottled crinkle, grapevine Algerian
latent, Lato River, pepper Moroccan, Neckar River, petunia asteroid mosaic,
pelargonium leaf curl and tomato bushy stunt tombusviruses, and 15 carmoviruses.
Additional comments on relationships
In Northern blot hybridization tests, the genomic RNA showed some
homology with the genomic RNAs of grapevine Algerian latent, petunia asteroid
mosaic and cymbidium ringspot tombusviruses.
