Index
Data collated by E. Shikata, 1989.
Nomenclature
Acronym
ICTV decimal code
Host range and symptoms
First reported
in Oryza sativa; from Taiwan; by Chiu et al. (1965).
Natural host range and symptoms
Symptoms disappear soon
after infection.
- Oryza sativa - japonica types are more susceptible than
indica types. Yellow or orange-buff colouring of oldest leaves, some rusty
flecking. No systemic symptoms.
Transmission
Transmitted by a vector; an insect;
Nephotettix nigropictus, N. cincticeps, N. impictus; Cicadellidae.
Transmitted in a persistent manner. Virus retained when the vector moults;
multiplies in the vector; not transmitted congenitally to the progeny of the
vector; not transmitted by mechanical inoculation; not transmitted by contact
between plants.
Geographical distribution
Spreads in Taiwan.
Found, but with no evidence of spread, in Okinawa, Japan.
Experimental host range
Few (<3) families susceptible.
Diagnostically susceptible host species and symptoms
- Oryza sativa japonica type - yellow or orange-buff
colouring of oldest leaves.
Maintenance and propagation hosts
Oryza sativa japonica type.
Assay hosts (Local lesions or Whole plants)
Oryza sativa japonica type (W).
Susceptible host species
Insusceptible host species
