stunt (?) tombusvirus
Index
Data collated by A.A. Brunt, 1995.
Nomenclature
ICTV decimal code
Host range and symptoms
First reported
in Avena sativa; from Wales; by Catherall (1986).
Natural host range and symptoms
- Avena sativa
- pale green to bright yellow leaf streaking, then necrosis and severe
stunting, no viable seed produced.
Transmission
Virus transmitted by mechanical inoculation.
Geographical distribution
Susceptible host species
Families containing susceptible hosts
Physical and
biochemical properties
Properties of particles in sap
Leaf sap
contains many virions.
Particle morphology
Virions isometric; not enveloped; 35
nm in diameter; angular in profile.
Biochemical properties
Genome consists of RNA;
single-stranded. Total genome size 4.114 kb. Genomic nucleic acid isolated by
Boonham et al. (1995).
Features of proteins
Virion protein(s) one;
Mr 48200; coat protein.
Taxonomy and
relationships
Additional comments on relationships
The sequence of the coat protein places this virus closest to the
tombusviruses, but the polymerase sequence places it outside the Tombusviridae.
