pitting (?) capillovirus
Index
Data collated by S.L. Bhattiprolu, 1991.
Nomenclature
Acronym
ICTV decimal code
Host range and symptoms
First reported
in Nandina domestica; from Florida, U.S.A.; by Ahmed et al.
(1982).
Natural host range and symptoms
Symptoms persist.
- Nandina domestica - mosaic, leaf cupping and malformation;
stem pitting and grooving.
Transmission
Not transmitted by Myzus persicae.
Virus not transmitted by mechanical inoculation; transmitted by grafting.
Geographical distribution
Found, but with no evidence of
spread, in the U.S.A.
Experimental host range
Few (<3) families susceptible.
Diagnostically susceptible host species and symptoms
- Nandina domestica - reddening and some inward curling
of leaves.
Maintenance and propagation hosts
Assay hosts (Local lesions or
Whole plants)
Susceptible host species
Insusceptible host species
Families containing susceptible hosts
Families containing
insusceptible hosts
Physical and
biochemical properties
Properties of particles in sap
Leaf sap
contains few virions.
Purification method
Ahmed et
al. (1982); Lee et al. (1987).
Particle morphology
Virions filamentous; not enveloped;
usually flexuous; with a clear modal length; of 755 nm (or 1600-1800nm; Lee
et al., 1987). Axial canal obscure. Basic helix obvious; pitch of basic
helix 3.9 nm.
Physical properties
A260/A280 ratio 1.22-1.24.
Replication
Replication does not depend on a helper
virus.
Cytopathology
Virions found in leaves, meristems and
phloem; in nuclei. Inclusions present in infected cells; are amorphous
X-bodies; they contain virions.
