in Melothria liukiuensis; from Okinawa Prefecture, Japan; by Yonaha et
al. (1993).
Natural host range and symptoms
Melothria
liukiuensis - faint leaf mottling.
Transmission
Transmitted by a vector; an insect;
Aphididae; Myzus persicae. Transmitted in a non-persistent manner.
Geographical distribution
Spreads in the Eastern Asian
region; Japan.
Experimental host range
Several (3-9) families
susceptible.
Diagnostically susceptible host species and
symptoms
- Melothria liukiuensis - systemic leaf
mottling.
- Cucurbita pepo, Nicotiana benthamiana - local chlorotic
spotting, systemic vein-clearing and mottling.
- Bryonopsis laciniosa,
Citrullus lanatus, Cucumis sativus and Cucurbita maxima - local
necrotic and local and systemic chlorotic spotting.
- Sesamum indicum
- local necrotic spotting, systemic stem necrosis and wilting.
- Chenopodium amaranticolor, C. murale, C. quinoa, Gomphrena globosa
and Spinacia oleracea - local necrotic lesions, not systemic.

Datura metel,
D. stramonium, Nicotiana clevelandii, N. glutinosa, N. rustica.
