Index
Data collated by A.J. Gibbs, 1990.
Nomenclature
ICTV decimal code
Host range and symptoms
First reported
in Zea mays; from China; by Peng et al. (1979).
Natural host range and symptoms
Symptoms persist.
- Zea mays - chlorotic streaking of leaf, husk and sheath.
Transmission
Transmitted by a vector; an insect;
Laodelphax striatellus (both adults and nymphs); Delphacidae. Transmitted
in a persistent manner. Virus retained when the vector moults.
Geographical distribution
Spreads in China (Gansu Province).
Experimental host range
Few (<3) families susceptible.
Diagnostically susceptible host species and symptoms
- Zea mays - chlorotic streaking of leaves and sheaths.
Maintenance and propagation hosts
Assay hosts (Local lesions or Whole plants)
Susceptible host species
Families containing susceptible hosts
Physical and
biochemical properties
Properties of particles in sap
Leaf sap
contains few virions.
Particle morphology
Virions rhabdo- or
bullet-shaped; enveloped; with a clear modal length; of 150-220 nm (and
200-250 nm); 43-64 nm wide (and 70-80 nm).
Cytopathology
Virions found in leaves; in the perinuclear
space (attached to the inner nuclear membrane); the endoplasmic reticulum.
