Host range and symptoms
First reported
in Nelumbo nucifera (East Indian Lotus); from Okayama, Japan; by
Yamashita et al. (1978).
Natural host range and symptoms
Symptoms persist.
- Nelumbo nucifera - chlorotic spots or ring spots, streaking
of roots.
Transmission
Transmitted by a vector; an insect;
Rhopalosiphum nymphaeae; Aphididae. Transmitted in a persistent manner.

biochemical properties
Properties of particles in sap
Leaf sap
contains few virions. Electron microscopy: necessary to prefix with
glutaraldehyde or osmium tetroxide.
Purification method
Particle morphology
Virions rhabdo- or
bullet-shaped; with a clear modal length; of 300-340 nm; 90 nm wide. Axial
canal obscure. Basic helix obvious; pitch of basic helix 4.5 nm.
Cytopathology
Virions found in leaves and shoots; in
cytoplasm and in nuclei. Inclusions present in infected cells; are viroplasms
(in the nucleus); they contain virions (of nucleoprotein without envelope).
