Synonyms
grapevine marbrure virus (Vuittenez et al.,
1966), grapevine phloem-limited isometric virus (Boulila et al., 1990).
Acronym
ICTV decimal code
Host range and symptoms
First reported
in Vitis vinifera; from France; by Vuittenez et al. (1966).
Natural host range and symptoms
- Vitis vinifera
- symptomless infection in most European cultivars and American Vitis
species and their hybrids.
Transmission
Virus not transmitted by mechanical
inoculation; transmitted by grafting.
Geographical
distribution
Spreads in South Africa. Found, but with no evidence of
spread, in European countries and the U.S.A.
Experimental host range
Few (<3) families susceptible.
Diagnostically susceptible host species and symptoms
- Vitis rupestris - scattered clearing of veinlets and
leaf deformation with severe strains.
Maintenance and propagation
hosts
Susceptible host species
Families containing susceptible hosts
Physical and biochemical properties
Particle morphology
Virions isometric; not enveloped; 30
nm in diameter.
Biochemical properties
Genome consists of RNA;
single-stranded.
Taxonomy and
relationships
Best tests for diagnosis
By
grafting to Vitis vinifera and serological methods (ELISA and ISEM).
