Host range and symptoms

Natural host range and symptoms

Symptoms persist. Symptoms mild leaf mottling.

Solanum melongena - mild leaf mottling.

Transmission

Not transmitted by Myzus persicae. Virus transmitted by mechanical inoculation; not transmitted by seed.

Geographical distribution

Spreads in the Middle East.

Experimental host range

Several (3-9) families susceptible. Experimentally infected plants mostly show etching and necrosis.

Diagnostically susceptible host species and symptoms

• Solanum melongena - systemic mild mottling.
• Nicotiana tabacum cvs Havana 425 and Xanthi-nc - necrotic etching of leaves, stunting, plant dies sometimes.

Diagnostically insusceptible host species

Capsicum annuum, Lycopersicon esculentum, Solanum tuberosum.

Maintenance and propagation hosts

Solanum melongena, Nicotiana tabacum cvs Havana 425 and Xanthi-nc.

Virions filamentous; not enveloped; usually straight; with a clear modal length; of 693 nm. Axial canal obscure.

Cytopathology

Virions found in cytoplasm. Inclusions absent from infected cells.

Virus(es) with serologically unrelated virions

Pea streak, potato S and red clover vein mosaic carlaviruses.
