First reported
in Dodonaea viscosa; from Hawaii; by Gardner and Kageler (1984).
Natural host range and symptoms
Symptoms persist.
- Dodonaea viscosa - pendulous `witches brooms' formed of
abnormally long proliferated branches, the leaves on which are small and
chlorotic.
Transmission
Virus not transmitted by mechanical
inoculation.
Geographical distribution
Spreads in the USA
(Hawaii).
Susceptible host species
Families containing susceptible hosts
Purification method
Physical and biochemical properties
Particle morphology
Virions filamentous; not enveloped;
usually flexuous; with a clear modal length; of 700 nm; 16 nm wide.
Features of the genome
1 virus specified dsRNA
species found in infected cells. Size of largest virus specified dsRNA 3 kbp.

General comments
The symptoms in
Dodonaea viscosa resemble those induced by mycoplasma-like organisms
(MLO) in other hosts. Although no MLO were detected in affected plants, further
work is necessary to elucidate the etiology of the disease.
