Host range and symptoms
First reported
in Dioscorea trifida; from Guadeloupe; by Migliori and Cadilhac (1976).
Natural host range and symptoms
- Dioscorea
trifida - mosaic, chlorotic flecking, vein-banding and leaf deformation.
Transmission
Transmitted by a vector; an insect; Aphis
gossypii; Aphididae. Transmitted in a non-persistent manner. Virus
transmitted by mechanical inoculation.
Geographical
distribution
Diagnostically susceptible host species and symptoms
- Dioscorea alata, D. cayenensis - mosaic, chlorotic
flecking, vein-banding and leaf deformation.
Susceptible host species
Families containing susceptible hosts
Purification method
Migliori and
Cadilhac (1976).
Physical and biochemical properties
Particle morphology
Virions filamentous; not enveloped;
usually flexuous; with a clear modal length; of 760 nm.
Cytopathology
Virions found in all parts of the host
plant; in cytoplasm. Inclusions present in infected cells; are pinwheels and
unusual in shape; and laminated aggregates; they do not contain virions.
Taxonomy and
relationships
Best tests for diagnosis
