Particle morphology

Virions filamentous; not enveloped; usually flexuous; with a clear modal length; of 805 nm (when stained with UA).

Virion protein(s) five; M_r of the largest 36000. M_r of 2nd largest 35000. M_r of 3rd largest 34000. M_r of 4th largest 33000. M_r of 5th largest 32000. Method of preparation: Laemmli and Favre (1973).

Cytopathology

Virions found in leaves; in cytoplasm. Inclusions present in infected cells; are pinwheels and unusual in shape; and scrolls; they do not contain virions.

Potyvirus: Potyviridae

Dioscorea greenbanding mosaic virus; yam virus-Nigeria isolate and yam mosaic viruses are distantly related.
