Host range and symptoms
First reported
in Trifolium pratense; from Sweden; by Gerhardson (1977).
Natural host range and symptoms
Symptoms persist.
- Trifolium pratense, T. hybridum - mosaic and malformation.
Transmission
Transmitted by a vector; an insect;
Aphididae. Transmitted in a semi-persistent manner. Virus transmitted by
mechanical inoculation.
Geographical distribution
Experimental host range
Few (<3) families susceptible.
Diagnostically susceptible host species and symptoms
- Phaseolus vulgaris - necrotic local lesions.
- Pisum sativum - systemic mosaic, ringspots, leaf shape
malformation.
- Trifolium hybridum, Vicia faba - systemic mosaic,
leaf malformation.

Physical and
biochemical properties
Properties of particles in sap
TIP:
56-60 °C. LIV: 7-14 days. DEP: log10 minus 3. Infectivity of sap not changed
by treatment with di-ethyl ether. Leaf sap contains few virions.
Purification method
Particle morphology
Virions isometric; not enveloped;
27-28 nm in diameter; rounded in profile; without a conspicuous capsomere
arrangement.
Physical properties
Four sedimenting components in
purified preparations; sedimentation coefficient of the fastest 121 S; of
the other(s) 101 S, or 82 S, or 54 S.
Taxonomy and
relationships
Virus(es) with serologically unrelated virions
Red clover mottle, broad bean stain, broad bean true mosaic, broad
bean wilt, alsike clover vein mosaic and arabis mosaic viruses.
