Clover enation
(?) nucleorhabdovirus
Index
Data collated by P.W.G. Chu, 1985.
Nomenclature
Synonyms
clover enation mosaic virus.
Acronym
ICTV decimal code
Host range and symptoms
First reported
in Trifolium repens; from Northern Italy; by Rubio-Huertos and Bos
(1969).
Natural host range and symptoms
Symptoms persist.
- Trifolium repens - enations on main veins of leaves.
Transmission
Virus not transmitted by mechanical
inoculation; transmitted by grafting.
Geographical
distribution
Spreads in Italy (the north).
Experimental host range
Experimentally infected plants
mostly show tumours.
Diagnostically susceptible host species
and symptoms
- Vicia faba - vein clearing, then vein
swelling to give chains of spindle-shaped tumours.
Susceptible host
species
Families containing susceptible hosts
Physical and biochemical properties
Particle morphology
Virions rhabdo- or
bullet-shaped; enveloped; with a clear modal length; of 200 nm; 80 nm wide.
Axial canal obvious.
Cytopathology
Virions found in in leaf tissue with
enations; in cytoplasm, in nuclei, and in mitochondria. Inclusions present in
infected cells; are crystals in the nucleus (arrays of tubular virions), or
membranous bodies (formed by the endoplasmic reticulum); they contain virions.
Other cellular changes: enations on the abaxial surface of the main leaf veins,
containing tumorous virus-containing cells with enlarged nuclei and nucleoli
surrounded by normal virus-free cells.
