First reported
in Citrus sinensis; from Sao Paolo, Brazil; by Bitancourt (1940).
Natural host range and symptoms
Symptoms disappear soon
after infection.
- Citrus sinensis - large chlorotic blotches on fruits, leaves
and twigs.
Transmission
Transmitted by a vector; a mite;
Brevipalpus phoenicis; Tetranychidae. Virus not transmitted by mechanical
inoculation; transmitted by grafting; not transmitted by seed; not transmitted
by pollen.
Geographical distribution
Spreads in Argentina,
Brazil, and the USA.
Experimental host range
Few (<3) families susceptible.

Physical and biochemical properties
Particle morphology
Virions rhabdo- or
bullet-shaped; not enveloped; of 100-110 nm; 30 nm wide.

(commonly associated with its envelope). Inclusions present in infected cells;
are viroplasms; they do not contain virions.
