Chickpea
filiform (?) potyvirus
Index
Data collated by P. Jeyanandarajah, 1992.
Nomenclature
Acronym
ICTV decimal code
Host range and symptoms
First reported
in Cicer arietinum; from the U.S.A.; by Kaiser et al. (1988).
Natural host range and symptoms
Symptoms persist.
- Cicer arietinum - narrow, deformed leaflets, axillary buds
proliferate and become stunted; fewer pods with small misshapen seeds.
Transmission
Transmitted by a vector; an insect;
Acyrthosiphon pisum, Myzus persicae; Aphididae. Transmitted in a
non-persistent manner. Virus transmitted by mechanical inoculation; not
transmitted by seed; not transmitted by pollen.
Geographical
distribution
Found, but with no evidence of spread, in the U.S.A.
(Washington State), in chickpea originating from India.
Experimental host range
Several (3-9) families
susceptible.
Diagnostically susceptible host species and
symptoms
- Cicer arietinum - filiform leaves, wilting and
necrosis.
- Lens culinaris, Trigonella foenum-graecum - systemic
leaf chlorosis, leaf curling and stunting.
- Nicotiana clevelandii -
symptomless systemic infection.
- Chenopodium amaranticolor, C. quinoa,
Gomphrena globosa - local lesions; no systemic infection.
Diagnostically insusceptible host species
Cassia
occidentalis, Cucumis sativus, Nicotiana glutinosa, N. tabacum, Vigna
unguiculata.
