the VIDE Database
Cassava vein
mosaic (?) caulimovirus
Index
Data collated by E.W. Kitajima, 1985.
Nomenclature
Acronym
ICTV decimal code
Host range and symptoms
First reported
in Manihot esculenta; from Sao Paulo, Brazil; by Costa and Normanha
(1940).
Natural host range and symptoms
Symptoms persist.
- Manihot esculenta - vein mosaic.
Transmission
Transmitted by means not involving a vector.
Virus transmitted by mechanical inoculation; transmitted by grafting; not
transmitted by seed; not transmitted by pollen.
Geographical
distribution
Experimental host range
Few (<3) families susceptible.
Experimentally infected plants mostly show vein mosaic.
Diagnostically susceptible host species and symptoms
- Manihot esculenta - vein mosaic.
Maintenance and
propagation hosts
Assay hosts
(Local lesions or Whole plants)
Susceptible host species
Families containing susceptible hosts
Physical and
biochemical properties
Properties of particles in sap
Infectivity of sap not changed by treatment with di-ethyl ether. Leaf sap
contains few virions.
Purification method
Particle morphology
Virions isometric; not enveloped;
45-50 nm in diameter; rounded in profile; without a conspicuous capsomere
arrangement.
Physical properties
One sedimenting component in purified
preparations; sedimentation coefficient 246 S.
Biochemical properties
Genome consists of DNA;
double-stranded; circular. Nucleotide sequence references: R.J. Shepherd
(personal communication).
Sequence database accession code(s)
- U20341
Em(43)_vi:Cv20341 Gb(89)_vi:Cvu20341 Cassava vein mosaic virus, complete genome.
4/95 8,158bp.
Replication
Replication does not depend on a helper
virus.
Cytopathology
Virions found in all parts of the host
plant; in cytoplasm. Inclusions present in infected cells; are viroplasms (but
not as dense as those of other caulimoviruses); they contain virions.
Taxonomy and
relationships
Virus(es) with serologically related virions
