First reported
in Manihot esculenta; from Colombia; by Lennon et al. (1987).
Natural host range and symptoms
- Manihot
esculenta - systemic, but symptomless.
Transmission
Virus transmitted by mechanical inoculation.
Geographical distribution
Diagnostically susceptible host species and symptoms
- Chenopodium spp., Nicotiana benthamiana -
symptomless, not systemic.
Susceptible host species
Families containing susceptible hosts
Physical and
biochemical properties
Properties of particles in sap
Leaf sap
contains few virions.
Particle morphology
Virions filamentous; with a clear
modal length; of 460 nm; 13 nm wide.
Features of proteins
Virion protein(s) one;
Mr 26000; coat protein.
Taxonomy and
relationships
Virus(es) with serologically related virions
Narcissus mosaic virus, but only distantly related to cassava common
mosaic and cassava X potexviruses.
Virus(es) with serologically
unrelated virions
Nine other potexviruses (Aiton
and Harrison, 1988).
Best tests for diagnosis
This virus
sometimes occurs with cassava X potexvirus or in plants with frogskin or
Caribbean mosaic symptoms but apparently is not the cause of these diseases.
