Host range and symptoms

Natural host range and symptoms

• Manihot esculenta - mixed infections (with cassava brown streak potyvirus) cause mottling and brown streaked stems.

Transmission

Transmitted by a vector; an insect; Bemisia tabaci; Aleyrodidae. Virus transmitted by mechanical inoculation.

Ecology and control

Studies reported by Jennings (1960).

Geographical distribution

Spreads in the African region (in the east).

Experimental host range

Several (3-9) families susceptible. Experimentally infected plants mostly show systemic mosaics, mottles, ringspots or necrosis.

Diagnostically susceptible host species and symptoms

• Nicotiana benthamiana, N. debneyi - systemic mosaic and mottling.
• Chenopodium quinoa, C. amaranticolor - local infection.
