Index
Data collated by V. Muniyappa, 1991.
Nomenclature
Acronym
ICTV decimal code
Host range and symptoms
First reported
in Abelmoschus esculentus; from Bombay, India; by Kulkarni (1924).
Natural host range and symptoms
Symptoms persist.
Symptoms vein clearing followed by yellowing and thickening, leaves and fruit
reduced in size.
- Abelmoschus esculentus - vein clearing, yellowing and
thickening.
Transmission
Transmitted by a vector; an insect;
Bemisia tabaci; Aleyrodidae. Transmitted in a persistent manner. Virus
retained when the vector moults; does not multiply in the vector; not
transmitted congenitally to the progeny of the vector; not transmitted by
mechanical inoculation; transmitted by grafting; not transmitted by contact
between plants; not transmitted by seed; not transmitted by pollen.
Ecology and control
Studies reported by Sastry and Singh
(1973).
Geographical distribution
Experimental host range
Few (<3) families susceptible.
Experimentally infected plants mostly show leaf curling and crinkling.
Diagnostically susceptible host species and symptoms
- Althaea rosea - leaf curling and crinkling.
Diagnostically insusceptible host species
Ageratum
conyzoides, Cajanus cajan, Croton bonplandianus, Glycine max, Lablab
purpureus.
Maintenance and propagation hosts
Assay hosts (Local
lesions or Whole plants)
Abelmoschus
esculentus (W).
Susceptible host species
Insusceptible host species
Families containing susceptible hosts
Families containing
insusceptible hosts
Sources of host-range data
Physical and biochemical properties
Particle morphology
