Bean yellow vein
banding umbravirus
Index
Data collated by K. Boswell, 1985. From Cockbain
1983.
Nomenclature
Synonyms
possibly pea silky green virus (Cockbain et
al., 1986).
Acronym
ICTV decimal code
Host range and symptoms
First reported
in Vicia faba; from southern England; by Cockbain (1978).
Natural host range and symptoms
- Vicia faba
- yellow vein-banding, mottling; symptoms enhanced when co-infecting with pea
enation mosaic enamovirus.
Transmission
Transmitted by a vector; an insect;
Acyrthosiphon pisum, Myzus persicae; Aphididae. Not transmitted by
Aphis fabae. Transmitted in a persistent manner. Virus requires, for
vector transmission, a helper virus (pea enation mosaic enamovirus in the field;
or bean leaf roll luteovirus in glasshouse tests); transmitted by mechanical
inoculation.
Geographical distribution
Experimental host range
Many (>9) families
susceptible.
Diagnostically susceptible host species and
symptoms
- Chenopodium amaranticolor, C. quinoa - local
chlorotic or necrotic lesions; no symptoms.
- Nicotiana clevelandii, N.
glutinosa, Pisum sativum, Trifolium incarnatum, Vicia faba, V. sativa -
no local symptoms; systemic mottling.
Susceptible host species
Families containing susceptible hosts
Physical and biochemical properties
Particle morphology
Virions isometric; not enveloped;
50-90 nm in diameter; rounded in profile.
