Virions filamentous; usually flexuous; with a clear modal length; of 697 nm. Axial canal obvious. Basic helix obscure.

Density 1.31 g cm^-3 in CsCl.

Biochemical properties

Genome consists of RNA; single-stranded; linear. Total genome size 7.5 kb. Genome unipartite; largest (or only) genome part 7.5 kb.

Non-genomic nucleic acid not found in the virions.

Virion protein(s) one; M_r 31000; coat protein. Method of preparation: Laemmli (1970).

Cytopathology

Virions found in cytoplasm. Inclusions present in infected cells; are membranous bodies; they do not contain virions.
